AKUA HAWAIKI - CEREMONY

ALOHA

To know this ceremony is to know our love and

the source of our love come from the simple love for life.

Life is all around us.

You can see it, when you look.

You can feel it, even when you close you eyes.

It soars through the sky,

It swims within the ocean,

It walks upon the earth.

It surrounds us,

It lives inside us.

As we breathe, it fills us,

As we speak, we share it.

A cycle of pleasures and movement.

As well as rest and being still.

It's a gift of unconditional love,

Designed to continually create

New life; living on forever.

You know what it is,

You had it from birth to this very moment,

and now you desire to intimately intertwine

YOUR life with the one you've chosen.

In ceremony we acknowledge

your love, your family, your friends present and those who could not be present.

We include the presence of nature - air, water, and land of Hawai'i = ha - wai - ki.

Our goal is to create a space and time for you to acknowledge the

intimate connection you have with life and each other.

ha - to breathe.

(Air)

The"ha" in hawaiian is recognized as sacred and bridging ones essence with

the natural and spiritual world. We will begin and end ceremony with the awareness to the ha.

The ha is also acknowledged through the sounding of the conch shell and through your

words as you speak promises of love in personal and|or formal vows.

wai - fresh water

(Water)

The "wai" is also sacred to Hawai'i. Another life giving element necessary for life to thrive.

We open a coconut from the hawaiian tree of life. Sharing it with each other and pour it out upon the land gifting it to those before us (our ancestors) and those who will come after us, (the next generations).

We will also do a hand washing between the two of you

with blessed waters of fresh water sources here in Hawai'i.

ki - ti leaf

(Land)

To seal this bond we will use ti leaf, a leaf used to welcome good spirits and protect us from evil spirits. This will be placed over your hands at the end of the ceremony and I will walk around you sprinkling pa'akai - salt to seal in this special moment.

All of this will be done in the Spirit of Aloha.
